Introduction
Waemok Village is the only place in Korea where you can see a sunrise, sunset, and moonrise, all from the same vantage point and as such is recommended by Suga, a member of the world-famous ‘BTS.’ The name of the village, ‘Waemok’, (heron neck) is derived from the way its coast protrudes eastwards while Namyang and Asan Bays cut deep inland to create an indentation like a heron’s neck. If you look at the map, Waemok Village sits on a peninsula reaching north into the West Sea. As this coastal protuberance faces east, it allows visitors to see both sunset and sunrise from the same spot. And, as it has both a sandy beach and rocks, visitors can also enjoy swimming and rock fishing.
Furthermore, there’s a 1.2km waterside deck so you can comfortably walk barefoot along the beachfront. You can also put the stresses and strains of daily life behind you for a while and experience a variety of seafood al fresco with the wafted scent of the ocean. There are various photo zones such as Saebit Waemok on the white sandy beach of Waemok Village, making it a great place for photo shoots. During the beach opening period (July and August), a water park is also open, where you can enjoy water slides. And as you walk along the sandy beach, you will find the Sailing Around the World Exhibition Hall. On the first floor here, you can view Captain Kim Seung Jin's series of round-the-world journeys in non-powered yachts for free. Above this, on the second floor, there’s the training center. From here the summer yacht program that takes place on the coast of Waemok Village is organized
As the village is the only place on the West Sea where people can enjoy the sunrise and sunset in the same place, Waemok Village holds an annual Sunset & Sunrise Festival that runs over 31st December and 1st of January. Over 100,000 people gather here to make wishes for the new year and enjoy the variety of performances on the program.
