Introduction
The Shinpyeong Brewery, where you can learn the taste of tradition in its historic home, first began brewing rice wine in 1933, and following the late Sir Kim Soon-sik and the second-generation craftsman Kim Yong-se, his son Kim Dong-gyo leads the family business into its third generation. In addition, the Shinpyeong Brewery, which was the first to be selected as a 'Visiting Brewery' project for the restoration of modern cultural heritage by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, is a traditional brewery cultural enterprise that brews and manufactures alcohol both with the inherited craftsmanship of an old master brewer while also developing Korea's contemporary brewing culture. Baekryeon Makgeolli is a rice wine that master craftsman Kim Yong-se created after years of research. It is made by fermenting lotus petals in alcohol, similar to a tea infusion, to give the wine its unique, subtle aroma.
Baekryeon Makgeolli, Baekryeon Liquor. The word ‘Baekryeon’ is added to the representative product of the Shinpyeong Brewery because Baekryeon (white lotus) leaves are added during the fermentation process when brewing the wine here. The Shinpyeong Brewery's makgeolli has a taste that has been deeply matured over a long period of time. Indeed, this proven ‘flavor’ led to its being selected as the Blue House banquet drink. Accordingly, the Shinpyeong Brewery's wines are loved and have been awarded the grand prize in the Korean Liquor Competition and made the drink of both the Blue House banquet, and the Samsung Group New Year's banquet. Furthermore, the lotus-leaf flavor neutralizes the heaviness of makgeolli and leaves a weightless aftertaste, making it popular among women and overseas consumers, leading to its winning awards at overseas competitions too. Next to the brewery is the ‘Baekryeon Brewing Culture Center’, a Korean traditional wine experience facility.
The living history of the Shinpyeong Brewery, which has pursued its passion for traditional liquor for three generations, is drawn together to offer experience programs that include a talk concert with local celebrities, a makgeolli (Danyangju) brewing experience, a makgeolli sommelier class, a nurukjeon (malt starter pancake) making experience, rice-malt bath salts, and rice-malt mask pack making experience, etc. The old earthenware in which the wine is matured, the malt that is still made by rubbing it by hand in the traditional way, and the long-standing traditions of the Shinpyeong Brewery are reflected in the taste and aroma of the wine. The Shinpyeong Brewery, which dreams of becoming a 100-year-old company, is maintaining its status as a renowned traditional liquor producer through its rigorous quality control, research into fermentation technology, and innovative business promotion for sustainable development.
